Floating Grade Aloeswood
Floating Grade is the category of aloeswood with the lightest texture and relatively low resin content; it floats on the water’s surface when placed in it. Its name originates from the yellow, loose texture that appears after the wood has been buried in soil for a long time, during which its woody fibers decompose. Ji Han of the Jin Dynasty recorded in An Account of the Plants and Trees of the Southern Regions: “Its root becomes Huang Shu Xiang (Yellow-ripened Incense).” Although its density is low, high-quality Floating Grade aloeswood has a mellow, warm, and distinctly sweet fragrance. Moreover, due to its loose structure, it is easier to obtain incense material from it.
